Thank you guys so much for having me! Well, I’m Luis Ángel Herrera. I’m one of the lucky few who can proudly say I was born and raised right here in Tulum. I’ve practically watched this paradise transform with my own eyes. Today, I represent the entire Riviera Maya with a lot of love and professionalism from my beloved Tulum, through Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morelos, all the way to Cancun. For me, it’s not just about selling properties; it’s about sharing a little piece of the land that watched me grow.
Every great realtor has a story. What inspired you to step into real estate, and why does this work matter to you personally?
It all started back in high school. One day, my dad told me, 'Come on, you're coming to work with me today.' He was working at the very first REMAX office in Tulum. From that day on, I became his shadow—tagging along to meetings, property tours, and client calls. I was basically his assistant, handling emails, blueprints, and paperwork. But what truly inspired me was watching how he didn't just close deals; he built genuine friendships with his clients. I fell in love with real estate and investing right then and there. Since then, I’ve never stopped learning, constantly studying mentors like Robert Kiyosaki, Grant Cardone, and of course, my dad. Today, with 7 years of experience under my belt, this job is deeply personal to me because I get to help people build their wealth in the paradise I call home.

For me, the biggest difference is that I don’t see this as a transaction-based job; I see it as my life purpose. I found my Ikigai in real estate. When you align what you love, what you are good at, and how you can help others, you stop selling and start serving. Combining that passion with the fact that I was born and raised here in Tulum gives me a massive edge. I don’t just know the market from a spreadsheet; I know the history of this land. Clients immediately feel the difference when they are guided by someone who genuinely loves what they do and knows the territory like the back of his hand.

From first-time buyers to luxury listings, everyone has a focus. What’s yours, and why?
My main goal isn’t just to sell a property; it’s to become the partner who helps bring a vision to life. I specialize in high-value niches across the Riviera Maya: investment properties, retirement homes, luxury estates, and exclusive beachfront options. But I know every client is unique. That’s why my first step is always to listen. I sit down with them to truly understand their financial goals and their vision for their lifestyle. Ultimately, my objective is to perfectly align the right real estate asset with the life or business goals of the person who trusts me with their investment.
For readers who want to better understand your approach, could you walk us through a recent example or experience?
Of course! I think the best way to understand my approach is through a recent success story. I recently helped a couple living outside of Mexico buy their dream property. It all started with a video call to map out their investment goals. Before they even landed, we had a curated list of properties. I personally picked them up from the airport, and on day one, we only toured one property, grabbed a bite, and I let them rest I always tell my clients that the key to a smart investment is never making decisions while tired.
The next few days were intense; we saw everything from pre-construction condos to luxury homes, but I felt something was missing that personal connection. So, we went for lunch by the beach to clear our minds. It was there they realized they actually wanted to build from the ground up to match their exact style. The next day, I took them to see some lots with an unmissable, one-time discount, followed by a finished home so they could visualize the quality and potential. They loved it.
They reserved the lot, signed the offer letter, and I took them back to the airport knowing we secured the best deal possible. Once they were back home, we handled all the contracts and digital signing securely online. I’ll be seeing them again soon to hand over their deeds and watch their dream home come to life. For me, a transaction ends, but a long-term friendship is just beginning.

From your perspective, what’s one piece of advice every buyer or seller should know before entering the market?
My main piece of advice is to never make a decision based solely on the lowest price in real estate, cheap often ends up being very expensive. Buyers and sellers need to approach this market with financial education and a long-term vision. Before taking any steps, clearly define your investment goals: are you looking for capital appreciation, passive rental income, or a legacy home? And most importantly: don't try to navigate this market alone. Partner with an expert agent who truly knows the local area and has the integrity to put your interests ahead of a commission. A great agent doesn't just sell you a property; they guide you toward a smart financial future.
