The Real Estate Agent Journal is a digital publication dedicated to the people behind the transactions, spotlighting the real estate agents and brokers who shape the markets, neighborhoods, and communities we call home. Rather than focusing solely on listings or market headlines, The Real Estate Agent Journal explores the stories behind your favorite professionals. Each article offers a closer look at how agents and brokers got started, what motivates their work, and what truly sets them apart when guiding clients through important decisions. These stories reveal the experience, values, and perspective that influence how they show up for buyers, sellers, investors, and families navigating change. Through thoughtful interviews and in-depth features, the magazine shares local insight, neighborhood knowledge, and personal journeys that go far beyond surface-level bios. Readers gain a deeper understanding of how real estate professionals think, how they approach complex situations, and how they help people move forward with confidence and clarity. Whether you’re researching who to work with, learning how great agents operate, or simply curious about the human side of real estate, The Real Estate Agent Journal offers an authentic look at the people guiding one of life’s biggest decisions. Because real estate isn’t just about property — it’s about people.

Thanks for taking the time to chat with us. Let’s start with a quick intro—your background, your business, and the local areas you specialize in.
I’m Nancy Truong with Mylyne & Associates at Stonehaus Realty. I first got my license in 2006 and have spent time working with clients as well as support on the backend dealing with contracts and compliance side, so I excel in working on the details and preventing any surprises. I focus on East Van, Burnaby, New West, the Tri-Cities and North Surrey, the places I’ve lived, worked, and play.
We’d love to hear your story. How did you get started in real estate, and what motivated you to pursue this career?
I started as an assistant to Mylyne Santos while finishing my psychology degree at UBC, and got licensed in 2006. I fell in love with helping people make one of the biggest decisions of their lives with confidence. Growing up, we moved a lot throughout the lower mainland, which left a feeling of never having a long-term community to grow into that felt like home. I love working with clients to understand their needs and goals, and help them find a place to grow roots in, whether it be their first home, forever home, or a safe community for their investment property.

Some of my first clients still call me today or have become close friends, and the genuine relationships is what keeps me going.
Tell us why you love your local market. What makes it special to you and those who live there?
I love the Tri-Cities because it's where my family has put down roots. We moved from a townhome in North Burnaby to a bigger home in Coquitlam, so I've been through the same move-up journey many of my clients are going through. It's close to my office, a short ride to see friends in Surrey, and we're close to the highway to get to Vancouver quickly for visiting family or specialist appointments.

The city also has spacious homes, greenbelts throughout, and has a strong family-focused community. It's a place where families really settle in. You see the same faces at school drop-off, the PAC meetings, the rec centre and the local coffee shops.

I was born and raised in the lower mainlaind, and have lived here all my life. So I know each area's personality, and I can help people figure out which one fits their life.

At the end of the day, it's about community. People here look out for each other, and that's what I love most.

Let’s get into some fun details—what are your favorite local spots, restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, nightlife, events, or venues?
Honestly, it depends on what you’re looking for!

Craving a doughnut? Try Doughnut Love on Como Lake Avenue in Coquitlam, or Bonus Bakery in Vancouver for something plant-based.

For great tasting Vietnamese food, check out Song Huong Eatery in Burnaby Heights.

Want to get outside? Mundy Park and the Coquitlam Crunch are two of my favourites close to home. For a bigger challenge, head to the North Shore and hike the BCMC or Flint & Feather trail at Grouse Mountain, or drive up to Squamish to tackle the Climb, Stewamis Chief, or Garibaldi Lake.

Looking for a fun afternoon or evening? Port Moody’s Brewers Row and Rocky Point Park are great for a walk by the water and a bite to eat.

And with family in East Van, Burnaby and Surrey, I’m always discovering new spots. That’s one of the best parts of this job: I get to share them with my clients when they’re deciding where they want to live.
If someone wants to make smart decisions in your market, what insider insights would you share?
My biggest insider tip? Don’t go through it alone.

Buying a home involves a lot of moving pieces: strata documents, financing, programs like the first-time buyer property transfer tax exemption, and negotiating in a market that changes month to month.

An experienced agent walks you through every step, explains the fine print, and spots the surprises before they cost you.

I’ve learned that most deals don’t fall apart over price. They fall apart over things nobody explained.

That’s why due diligence matters so much. On one deal, our routine checks with the City revealed that the home our buyers wanted had previously been used as a grow op. Even the current owners didn’t know.

Our buyers had already fallen in love with the home. So we made sure the proper remediation and paperwork were completed according to the regulations before moving forward.

So find someone who listens, gives you the real numbers, and helps you see every side of the decision. Then you can make the choice that’s right for you.
Before we end, could you leave readers with some final takeaways—and let everyone know how to connect or learn more about your services?
My biggest takeaway: buying a home is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make, and you deserve to feel confident about it.

Ask questions, even the small ones.

And find someone who listens first, and stays with you long after you get the keys.

Whether it’s your first home, your next home or an investment, I’d love to help you look at it from every side.
