I think we’ve made the idea of owning a local publication sound way more complicated than it actually is.

So here’s the simplest version:

You’re a realtor.
You own a local publication.
People in your community create the content.

That’s the model.

You meet a local business owner?

Give them a complimentary feature link.

Meet a contractor?

Give them a link.

Talk to a restaurant owner, designer, lender, community leader, or another agent?

Same thing.

“Hey, I have a local publication. Want to tell your story?”

They fill out the interview themselves.

They choose their photos.

They write it in their own words.

They hit publish.

And now their story lives inside your publication.

You didn’t have to write the article.

You didn’t have to interview them.

You didn’t have to chase down photos.

You just made the introduction.

That’s what I think people are missing about the model.

Owning a local publication isn't about creating another full-time job.

It’s about taking the conversations and relationships you’re already having every day and giving those people a reason to stay connected to you.

One feature becomes ten.

Ten becomes fifty.

Fifty becomes a community of businesses and people who now have a connection to your publication—and to you.

The content compounds.

The relationships compound.

The visibility compounds.

And you’re not doing all the work.

You’re building the platform. Your community helps build the publication.

That’s the beauty of user-generated media.

Maybe owning a publication isn’t as complicated as we’ve been making it sound.
